Tires
The use of precipitated silica in the manufacture of tires has become increasingly important, not only because of its volume, but also because of its effect on fuel consumption in transport and therefore on the environmental impact of our products. Silkimya offers specific precipitated silica for this sector within its REFORSIL® range.
So-called “green tyres”, which use silica instead of carbon black as a filler, offer significant advantages over traditional tyres, not only in terms of safety (better performance on wet or snowy roads), but above all in terms of fuel economy, representing a potential saving of 3-5% of the vehicle’s fuel consumption.
“They affect our steering and our safety on the road. Let’s make sure we have a solid foundation to move forward.”

Reforsil®
Precipitated silica from the Reforsil® range have a wide range of applications, the most important of which is in the reinforcement of elastomers, especially synthetic rubbers. However, silica is also used in other sectors such as the food industry, both human and animal, as a technological additive with anti-caking and/or fluidising properties, as a carrier for flavourings or other additives or active liquid substances, in agriculture as a milling aid or carrier, and in other sectors as diverse as the pharmaceutical industry or the paint and varnish industry.
As the name suggests, their main role is in rubber reinforcement, but the applications of these products are very wide.

Type / Use
Reforsil® S-180GR is a high reinforcing silica for elastomers, presented in granular form to facilitate incorporation and minimise dust generation in the work area. Its performance is equivalent to that of the reference products in this application. It is particularly suitable for use in the tread of green tyres in combination with silanes, especially when working with silica/carbon black blends. It provides excellent mechanical properties, especially in terms of elasticity and tear resistance, due to the synergy with silane.
