Precipitated silica has long been used as a reinforcing filler in elastomers, particularly natural and synthetic rubbers. It is one of the so-called white fillers, which allow rubber compounds to be coloured, unlike the other common filler, carbon black. Among the various white fillers, precipitated silica is the only one whose reinforcing capacity can compete with carbon black in terms of improved properties.
Silkimya has a wide range of silica for this application, the REFORSIL® series, with different reinforcing effects, since the greater the reinforcement, the better the mechanical properties, but the poorer the processability of the end product, which allows the product used to be adapted to the requirements of the application.
Silica can be used in all types of rubber products, but its main application is in coloured products with good mechanical properties, such as shoe soles, rubber flooring, gaskets, belts, hoses, etc. It is particularly compatible with NBR, NR, SBR/BR and CR.

Reforsil®
Precipitated silica from the Reforsil® range have a wide range of applications, the most important of which is in the reinforcement of elastomers, especially synthetic rubbers. However, silica is also used in other sectors such as the food industry, both human and animal, as a technological additive with anti-caking and/or fluidising properties, as a carrier for flavourings or other additives or active liquid substances, in agriculture as a milling aid or carrier, and in other sectors as diverse as the pharmaceutical industry or the paint and varnish industry.
As the name suggests, their main role is in rubber reinforcement, but the applications of these products are very wide.

Type / Use
Reforsil® S180PD is a high reinforcement silica for elastomers, presented in powder form for easy incorporation and dispersion. Its performance is equivalent to the reference products in this application. Its use is particularly used in coloured rubber articles, where it offers excellent mechanical properties, allowing the use of any colour or colour combination. It is particularly suitable for use with NR, SBR/BR, NBR and CR, but can also be used with other polymers. It plays a special role in foamed parts because, if well dispersed, it influences the bubble size and therefore the density of the expanded rubber.
PRODUCT INFORMATION
Store in a dry place. These products have a shelf life of two years from the date of manufacture. When handling, take appropriate precautions as indicated in the safety data sheet.
Supplied in multi-ply paper sacks and in super sacks or Jumbo bags.
Type / Use
Reforsil® S-180GR is a high reinforcing silica for elastomers, presented in granular form to facilitate incorporation and minimise dust generation in the work area. Its performance is equivalent to that of the reference products in this application. It is particularly suitable for use in the tread of green tyres in combination with silanes, especially when working with silica/carbon black blends. It provides excellent mechanical properties, especially in terms of elasticity and tear resistance, due to the synergy with silane.

Type / Use
For special applications a less reinforcing silica may be required, which at the same time improves the processability of the raw rubber. This is the role of REFORSIL® S125, which provides the benefits of silica without making the compounds viscous or difficult to process, but with a loss of mechanical properties compared to REFORSIL® S180.
PRODUCT INFORMATION
It is particularly recommended for injection moulding, as it allows good filling of the moulds and avoids problems of clogging of the injection channels. It is also recommended when silica is to be added to a blend containing carbon black as a reinforcing filler, as it has less effect on the workability of the blend.
